Luminis and Gilchrist Form Joint Venture for Aged Care Services in Anne Arundel County

Gilchrist, Maryland’s largest nonprofit leader in critical illness and end-of-life care, announced Monday a joint venture with Luminis Health to form Luminis Health Gilchrist Lifecare Institute to improve geriatric care services complete in Anne Arundel County.

The Luminis Health Gilchrist Lifecare Institute will provide an integrative continuum of care for older adults in multiple settings, including hospitals, physicians’ offices, long-term care facilities and home care. These services will help meet the complex medical, emotional and social needs unique to seniors.

The joint venture expands the existing partnership between Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center and Gilchrist for hospital-based palliative care services. Inpatient palliative care will also be available at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. Luminis Health Gilchrist Lifecare Institute will provide services in Anne Arundel County, with plans to expand to Prince George’s County through Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center in the future.

By 2034, older adults (65 and older) are expected to outnumber children for the first time in US history. Maryland will experience a projected 136 percent increase in people aged 80 to 84 between 2005 and 2040. Sixty-three percent of people 60 and older live in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Montgomery, and Prince George counties. .

Gilchrist is accredited by CHAP (Community Health Accreditation Partner), is a recipient of the Circle of Life award from the American Hospital Association and is part of GBMC HealthCare.
